How to positively nudge the probability of your success

Updated: May 28, 2022

We are all bound by the laws of probability. We cannot escape them, but we can tweak the data in our favour. We can beat the system. Sort of.

Rolling the dice on your success...

Imagine you are living in an isolated village. All your interactions are with the people of that village. That village, is your experience bubble.

Now let's say there's a train that passes through the village occasionally. People from other villages might come over to your town. If you go out and meet them, your interactions can increase the scope of your experience bubble.

After some time, you build the courage to actually get onto the train. Suddenly, you’re stepping into a world of untold possibilities!

The point of this supposedly meaningless thought experiment is that we are all, to a certain extent, in control of our experience bubbles. The more you reach out, the more opportunities you’re likely to get.

That’s basically blog talk for networking!

However, we are going to call it manufacturing opportunities. Actually, let me rephrase that - we are only manufacturing conditions that can lead to opportunities, and not opportunities themselves.

David Perell, a proficient writer and the creator of the concept of a "serendipity vehicle", says this on his website:

"The best opportunities are the ones you never expected. They’re serendipitous. Serendipity is a state of mind. Serendipity births unexpected opportunities which fuel progress and push us in fruitful directions. By maximizing serendipity, you’ll accelerate your progress."

You have no idea what opportunities are waiting for you!

I have personally tried this method and the results are quite astounding. Like most people, I had planned my life out. And if I had achieved everything I had (realistically) planned for, then I would be at much lower rung of success than I am at right now.

Serendipity helped me achieve more than I hoped for. I will talk about this more in detail in later blogs, but for now, take my word for it.

So start building your serendipity vehicle. Push your thoughts and ideas out there. Let people find you, and opportunities will come knocking. That's how you positively nudge the probability of your success.
